9 Steps to Safety

USING THE NINE KEY SAFETY PROGRAM PARAMETERS TO IMPLEMENT A BASIC SAFETY PROGRAM

Developing a Safety Program does not have to be an overwhelming project. The degree of sophistication depends on your size and type of business. For example, if you only have a few employees and are in a service related business, not as many serious safety related issues would apply to your company as would to a manufacturing or construction company. In this case, a Basic Safety Program should be adequate. Remember, however, that there are a number of OSHA regulations that can apply even to small companies. The Division of Safety & Hygiene developed general guidelines for companies to follow. These Nine Key Safety Program Parameters have proven effective in improving the safety efforts of many companies. Remember they are a guide and need to be implemented accordingly. It will take some work, but once in place the amount of effort can be greatly reduced. At first glance these nine steps may appear unattainable for a small company. However, if you apply each step independently, they can be implemented gradually. The Division of Safety & Hygiene and your association recognize that implementation may take some time. Assistance is available through your association, RiskControl360 and the Division of Safety & Hygiene.
